Creating a Modern Outdoor Entertaining Space
This project involved the transformation of a residential garden in Wigan through the installation of a bespoke composite decking area designed to create a dedicated outdoor living space. The homeowners wanted a modern, low-maintenance solution that would allow them to enjoy their garden more comfortably while providing a practical space for relaxing and entertaining.
Our role was to design and install a composite decking system that complemented the existing garden while introducing a clean, contemporary structure that would remain durable and visually appealing for years to come.

The Challenge
The homeowners in Wigan enjoy outdoor entertaining and wanted a garden space that felt inviting and social rather than simply installing a basic raised platform. A standard rectangular deck would have created a flat “stage-like” surface that lacked character and didn’t make the best use of the available garden space.
Another challenge was the shape of the garden itself. The corner where the deck was to be installed was not perfectly square, meaning the structure could not be built using a simple off-the-shelf layout. The framework needed to be carefully designed and constructed to follow the natural shape of the garden while maintaining clean lines and a professional finish.
The goal was therefore to create a bespoke composite decking layout that felt integrated into the garden while providing comfortable seating areas and visual interest. The space needed to encourage relaxation and entertaining while avoiding the appearance of a simple standalone deck structure.
Our Design Approach
To achieve the more considered outdoor space the homeowners were looking for, we developed a bespoke composite decking design that worked with the shape of the garden rather than forcing the layout into a standard rectangular platform. Because the corner of the garden was not perfectly square, the supporting framework was carefully set out and constructed to follow the natural angles of the space, ensuring the finished deck would sit comfortably within the garden while maintaining clean, precise lines.
To avoid the appearance of a simple raised platform, the design introduced a number of integrated features that add both functionality and visual interest. An L-shaped step detail was incorporated into the front edge of the deck to soften the transition between the garden and the seating area, while also creating a more dynamic layout.
We also designed built-in seating and a raised planter directly into the decking structure. These elements help define the entertaining space while providing practical seating and planting opportunities, allowing the deck to feel like a natural extension of the garden rather than a standalone structure.
By combining careful structural planning with these integrated design features, the finished decking layout creates a space that feels both architecturally considered and highly functional for everyday outdoor living.

The Result
The completed project transformed this Wigan garden into a stylish and highly usable outdoor entertaining space. The raised composite decking now provides a comfortable seating area that feels naturally integrated with the garden rather than appearing as a simple standalone platform.
The addition of the L-shaped step, built-in seating and integrated planter helps break up the structure visually while creating distinct areas for relaxing and socialising. These features give the deck a more architectural feel and make the space far more engaging than a traditional rectangular decking layout.
The bespoke framework ensures the deck fits perfectly within the shape of the garden, allowing the finished installation to look clean, balanced and professionally executed. Combined with the durability and low-maintenance benefits of composite decking, the homeowners now have an outdoor living space that is both practical for everyday use and ideal for hosting friends and family.
The result is a modern garden feature that enhances the overall character of the property while providing a long-lasting space for outdoor enjoyment.
